Susan Hendley has spent the majority of her life in the Carolinas. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History, from Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. During her time in the Upstate, she increased her knowledge of art and studio practice through work with the Spartanburg Art Museum, HUB-BUB Showroom Gallery, and The Bascom: A Visual Arts Center.
Susan returned to The Bascom for a summer residency in 2015, concentrating in functional ceramic forms. From North Carolina, she relocated to Birmingham, Alabama, as Education Coordinator and Studio Assistant for Earthborn Pottery, as well as a production assistant for Civil Stoneware, and ceramic artist and educator for MAKEBhm, a contemporary makerspace. She recently completed a fellowship with the Elsewhere Museum and teaching with the Forge Makerspace, in Greensboro North Carolina. Susan currently lives and works in Charlotte, North Carolina, at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. In her spare time she enjoys pretending she can sing well, picking plants and flowers, hammocking, and thinking about good karaoke songs (even though she never sings karaoke). |
